Growing a Farmer Post 1
My first impression of the book Growing a Farmer was intriguing. It had a slow start from the first chapter when he talks about his business as a restaurant owner in the big city. But, I started to enjoy this book as I continued to read more. As I progressed through each chapter, I could see Kurt Timmermeister growing his farm through his tests and failures. After reading about his failed attempts on running a farm. I started to realize how this book is relevant to overseeing any type of business. You need to fail to learn from your mistakes in order to grow. It’s amazing to see how each chapter so far is about Kurt’s new ideas and failures as he tries to expand his goal to manage a successful farm. He does an excellent job of transitioning between chapters creating new exciting stories to tell his readers. It keeps me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know more about Kurt’s next venture.
I admire Kurt’s motivation to experiment with different fruits, vegetables, and livestock. It illustrates a reflection of how businesses grow and become successful. I also respect his caring personality. For example, I thought it was nice of him to hire Matt who was an intern at a local vegetable farm. It’s not only about hiring a local intern that makes me admire him, but its more about his reaction after they failed at growing vegetables. Kurt understood that Matt’s income depended on the successful crop season. He still had income from his restaurant, which meant that he had less to lose. I respected Kurt’s reaction and professionalism in understanding his perspective and choice to leave for another farm. After reading Kurt’s story about growing a bee farm, I felt like he brings a sense of humor into his writing. It was painful imagining how he got attacked by bees because he decided to wear different attire. Overall, this is an interesting novel that I enjoy reading. I am excited to see how Kurt becomes successful as I continue to finish this book.
